OrCom 101 – Introduction to Organizational Communication
Theories, principles and trends in organizational communication. Prerequisite: Communication I & II / Komunikasyon I at II Credit: 3 units – OrCom 104 – Dynamics of Interpersonal Communication The study of different forms of interpersonal communication, and analysis of the influence of Philippine social values on interpersonal communication. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 105 – Dynamics of Public Relations The role of public relations in communications services; public relations ethics in simple and complex organizations; problems in PR dynamics within the Philippine setting. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 107 – Intercultural Communication A study of the means by which people communicate and establish relationships across cultural lines with the objective of training students to function in a more effective way in multi-cultural situations. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 109.1 –Technical Writing I Elements and principles of effective written communication in organizations: varieties of writing styles (scientific, technical, popular), types of business correspondences, writing the memo, the long and short report, concept paper, case study, project proposal, conference proceedings, minutes of the meeting and press releases. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 109.2 – Technical Writing II – Research Writing Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 140 – Dynamics of Organizations Theories, models and approaches regarding organizations. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 142 – Communication Processes and Organizational Structures Dynamics of communication skills and processes in organizations with emphasis on Philippine structural models. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 143 – Approaches to Communication in Management Problems and issues of management communication in simple and complex organizations; training for communication skills on the management level. Prerequisite: OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units OrCom 145 – Psychology of Language and Communication The basic psychological concepts underlying the study of language as a communication tool for specific social structures. The application of statistical methods to organizational communication data. Prerequisite: OrCom 101, Math 11 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 180 – Practicum Supervised field work Prerequisite: Senior standing and OrCom 109.2 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 199 – Organizational Communication Research Nature, development, principles and problems of organizational communication research in the Philippine setting; thesis proposal. Prerequisite: OrCom 101, OrCom 109.2, OrCom 155 Credit: 3 units – OrCom 200 – Thesis Implementation of the thesis proposal earlier prepared in OrCom 199 and writing of the research paper. Prerequisite: OrCom 199 Credit: 3 units – Linguistics Ling 100 – Introduction to the Study of Language Prerequisite: Communication I & II / Komunikasyon I &II Credit: 3 units – Speech Communication SpCom 133 – Argumentation and Debate The development of the student’s ability to employ critical thinking and correct reasoning in argumentative composition and speech delivery, including the analysis of arguments, evidence and reasoning. Prerequisite: Communication III and OrCom 101 Credit: 3 units – Speech 137 – Group Discussion and Conference Leadership Procedures in exchanging information, solving problems, determining policies, resolving differences in small face-to-face groups, and developing insights into the nature of group process.
